What is a State of Local Emergency

A State of Local Emergency (SOLE) is a legal process completed by a Municipality under the provisions of the Alberta Emergency Management Act, Revised Stautes of Alberta 2000 Chapter E-6.8. The SOLE allows municipalities extraordinary powers to effectively access resources to counteract the emergency at hand. This may include use of equipment, access to private property, freezing of commodity prices and others. A SOLE is valid for a period of seven (7) days after which it must be renewed or rescinded.  The process for issuing a SOLE is contained within a municipal bylaw.
